The Feasts of the LORD:

His plan of Salvation

We observe and keep the Feasts of the LORD as Instructed by Abba Father in Leviticus 23.

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the 'Lord , which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts. ' Leviticus 23:1-2 kjv

Abba Father made it very clear that the feasts He instructed Israel to keep are His feasts and that it should be kept for eternity.  It is therefore still relevant and Abba wants His children here on earth to celebrate His Feasts.  It is not only for the Jews but for everyone that is part of the kingdom of Abba through Yeshua. We at CWTLM celebrate and God’s feasts only because the purpose of the feasts is to reveal His character to us, to reveal His plan for salvation and to prepare mankind for the second coming of Yeshua.  The Bible makes it very clear that we will be celebrating the feasts and the Sabbaths during the millennium (Sag 14:16-21; Jes. 66:22-24). It is therefore that Yeshua (Jesus) fulfilled or partially fulfilled all of the feasts (Matt. 5:17-19)

The Feasts of the LORD

This subject has brought so many relevant questions for us to answer:

  1. What are the Feasts of the Lord?

  2. Are they still important and relevant and applicable to us as Children of GOD?

  3. Is it important for us to know them, to understand them and to see the pattern displayed by them?

  4. Are they important to recognize, to commemorate, to celebrate and observe them according to scripture?

  5. Are they not only meant for the Jews?

  6. Did Yeshua our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, commemorate, celebrate and observe them? And what about His followers, what did they do?

  7. What did Paul and his followers do?

  8. What did the first couple of centuries of Christians celebrate?

  9. What went wrong and why were they left out and abandoned by God’s adopted people (Christians) the protestants?

The most important question would be, what does God say? Neither my nor your opinions matters except for the truth of the Word and what Abba Father says about His feast days and His sabbaths.

I am defiantly not talking about Christmas or easter or valentines day or any other observed holidays by the modern church or society today. We are talking about the Feasts of the LORD and His Holy days.

"Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are My feasts." (Leviticus 23:2)

  • This above scripture is a direct instruction from Abba Father concerning His Feasts.

  • Please note that Abba Father called it HIS Feasts, and not the feasts of men nor the feasts of the Jews. MY feasts

  • I want to emphasize the following: the Feasts of the LORD does NOT belong to any particular nation or group of people; it belongs to Father YHVH.  It is His Feasts given to All His children.

  • According to scripture, we shall and should all observe and keep the Feasts of the Lord as an ordinance forever.

  • The Revelation of Jesus Christ also shows us that these feasts of the LORD will be observed during the 1000 years of reign with Yeshua which is after the second coming of Yeshua.

Note all feasts are based on the Hebrew Calendar as instructed through the Word of God which runs on a lunar (moon) cycle.

Here is a List of The Feasts of the LORD:

  • Sukkot – Tabernacles (2-8th October 2020)

  • Shemeni Atzeret – 8th day Feast (9th October 2020)

Let us examine this verse for a moment and certain words of scripture:

"Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are My feasts." (Leviticus 23:2)

The word “Feasts “in Hebrew is Moêd: מועד

BDB Definition:

  1. appointed place, (Fixed place: Each feasts was fulfilled by Yeshua at a specific place. Not only limited to Jerusalem, or golgotha, but also specific place in the pattern and place in history)

  2. appointed time, (Scheduled time in advance, on location at the time)

  3. appointed meeting, (with God) (Scheduled meeting)

  4. appointed season,  sacred (Holy) season, set feast,

  5. appointed sign or signal, (Determined Sign: Sign must identify us)

By studying the meaning of the word we can understand that this is an appointed time of the LORD, that it shall be a Holy and Sacred time to meet with Abba Father and as an assembly or alone with GOD and that the Lord commands us to observe and keep such appointed time because it’s His as He established it.

The first time Abba Father used the Word His Feasts (Mô’êd) was in Gen 1:14.

"And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for (miraculous)signs, and for seasons (Mô’êd), and for days, and years:" (Genesis 1:14)

Signs” = Oth = A banner, a miracle sign, remembrance, testimony, mark, covenant sign; miracles;

Banner: Sign of identification, the Festivals is an identification that you and I belong to Him

“..ye shall proclaim to be (1)holy (2)convocations..” Lev 23:2

1. HOLY = קדשׁ qôdesh

BDB Definition:

  1. apartness, holiness, sacredness, separateness, set-apartness, Holiness

  2. of God

  3. of places

  4. of things

2. CONVOCATIONS= מקרא miqrâ'

BDB Definition:

  1. convocation, convoking, reading, a calling together, also a rehearsal (For His second coming) (For future event)

  2. convocation, a sacred assembly

  3. convoking

  4. reading

The intended meaning and definition looks as follows:

"Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the (appointed time, place, meeting, season and sign)of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be a (set apart, sacred and Holy - assembly, calling together, reading and sacred rehearsal), even these are my (appointed time, place, meeting, season and sign)." Lev 23:2

Of course, there are more to the Feasts than just to know that we should observe and keep them because Father Yahweh commanded us to.

Why should we know them, understand the pattern displayed by them; Why should they be important to us to recognize, commemorate, celebrate and observe His Feasts?

  1. Abba Fathers Feasts is a miraculous sign, it serves and displays the order, pattern, and design that reveals His plan for salvation for mankind; It all appoints towards Christ as the Messiah.

  2. It displays Yeshua’s fulfilment of His plan of salvation, it should be important for us as well to understand the pattern.

  3. It reveals the Gospel of Jesus Christ;

    • (Yeshua was crucified on Passover / in the tomb on the feasts of unleavened bread and resurrected on the feast of the first fruit.)

  4. It also reveals the prophecy of future events,

    • Yom Teruah(the Feast of Trumpets) when Yeshua will fetch His bride for the marriage supper. It also reveals His second coming when Yeshua will return with His bride to establish His 1000 years of reign.

  5. the Feasts proclaim the truth of the Word.

  6. The Feasts proclaim victory; Yeshua’s victory over death and sin. And Our Victory we have in Christ.

  7. It was given to us because of God’s Love for us.

The institution of the feasts serves as an illustration, identification, and shadow to His people for the coming of the Messiah. Through the feasts, the nation should identify and recognize the coming of the Messiah. Everything that was written before was written about Christ. The fulfilment of the feasts had to be recognized by the nation so they would know that Yeshua is the Son of God.

"For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?" (John 5:46-47)

We also see that John the Baptist identified Christ as the Lamb of God. He could recognize the prophesy and fulfilment of it.

"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water." (John 1:29-31)

“It is therefore also important that today's CHRISTIANS understand the feasts, the meaning, the fulfillment and the illustration thereof and observe and keep it to prepare for the return of Yeshua. If this is not done, as with Yeshua's first coming, the people will again not be able to identify the signs of His coming and will once again be deceived.” - C v Niekerk

Not only for Jews:

According to scripture, the Feasts was not for the Jews only but for everyone that believed in Father YHVH and served Him.

"One ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation, and also for the stranger that sojourneth with you, an ordinance for ever in your generations: as ye are, so shall the stranger be before the LORD. One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you." (Numbers 15:15-16)

Did Yeshua and his followers observe God’s Feasts?

We know that Yeshua and His disciples were also observing the feasts, Paul was also keeping it and encourage His followers to keep it because it honors and glorifies Christ.

Feast of Passover and Unleavened bread was observed:

"And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God." (Luke 22:15-16)

John 7:2-10 also indicates that Yeshua kept the feasts of Tabernacles.

"Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth." (1 Corinthians 5:7-8)

Feast of Pentecost (Shavuot) was observed:

"And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place." (Acts 2:1)

"For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost." (Acts 20:16)

Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) was observed:

"Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,"(Acts 27:9)

Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) was observed:

"When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not; But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus." (Acts 18:20-21)

Feast of trumpets (Yom Teruah) refers to:

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)

What does Paul say to the assembly of Colossians:

"Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ." (Colossians 2:16-17)

Paul told his followers (the assembly of Colossians which consisted of Jews and non-Jews) not to worry or be concerned if others judge them if they are observing the feasts of God. Paul has never mentioned anywhere that the feasts of God are not applicable or that the feasts have ceased.

Paul instructed and encouraged us to follow his example:

"Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ." (1 Corinthians 11:1)

The meaning of the word “followers” in this passage from the Greek is to be an imitator, that is: someone who copies the behaviour or actions of another or attempts to make the resemblance of anything. What is Paul saying? to imitate him in behaviour, action(deed) and faith in Yeshua.

"Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me." (1 Corinthians 4:16)

"And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:” (1 Thessalonians 1:6)

Paul encourages us to keep the Feasts as He was keeping:

"Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth." (1 Corinthians 5:7-8)

Did the Christians keep the Feasts in the first couple centuries?

“It is well known that Origen of Alexandria (185-254 AD), the architect of Catholic theology, recorded that the early 3rd century Christians still celebrated the festivals of Abba Father. Even the Catholic saint Jerome (347-420 AD) wrote that Christians in the 4th century also celebrated the feasts of Abba Father.

"The first Christians continued to observe the Jewish festivals [i.e. God's Festivals], though in a new spirit, as commemorations of events which those festivals had foreshadowed" - (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 11th ed., vol. 8, p. 828).

Why were the Feasts of GOD abandoned?

  • The primary and general reason why the feasts of the Lord was disregarded and believed that it does not apply to today’s Christians is because of the false teaching that sprung out of the early Roman Catholic doctrines.

  • Because of Antisemitism towards the Jews leading the R.C.C (Roman Catholic Church) to distance themselves from everything to do with the Jews, even abolishing God’s own Word, His Instructions and His commands and because of this political decision, it led many astray and away from God’s truth and understanding.

  • Now today we sit with many false doctrines in the Protestant churches which were adopted and accepted from the R.C.C and were never tested or re-examined according to scripture.

  • We have been deceived for so many years under the authority of people and shaped by people’s doctrines and traditions and not shaped by the Word of God alone. (what happened to sola scripture – scripture alone)

  • We allowed tradition to blind us from knowing the truth and making the Word of God to no influence in our lives.

"Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye." (Mark 7:13)

In the year 387 AD the Archbishop of Constantinople, John Chrysostom, announced in his "Homilies" writings that the feasts of the Jews are misery and disbelief and that the Catholics should not celebrate the feasts. It is from this time that the Roman Catholic leaders began to establish their own feasts and even change Abba Father's feasts to conform to their doctrines.

  • The best example of this is the feast of Pesach (Passover) which has been changed to "Easter" and whose original dates have also been moved to coincide with the heathen festival glorifying the goddess Astarte.

  • The same thing happened with Christmas. Everyone knows that December 25 is not when Yeshua was born.

  • Although everyone knows and acknowledges it, but people continue to celebrate Christmas despite the various scriptures that warn people not to celebrate other festivals than God’s Feasts.

  • Another example, the R.C.C. also changed the sabbath, they moved it to Sunday which was the worship of the sun. There is no biblical reason or instruction that justify the change of God’s sabbath. If you can find it please show me?

  •  They changed Father YHVH appointed time, place, meeting, season and sign which Abba Father blessed and made sanctified to Himself to be Holy.

As a result, Abba Father set up several prophets to warn Israel against their idol worship and their own false feasts.

"I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies. Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols." (Amos 5:21-23)

  • Abba Father despises the feasts of man, how many times did God condemned the people because of their disobedience by inventing their own feasts. The bible calls it idolatry.

  • The nation defiled the Feasts that God has created and established to be Holy and Sacred for His people, but they profane it with their traditions.

  • We are no better than the (1)hypocrites, (2)Pharisees, and (3)scribes of that time because we do the same things as they did.

  • We follow tradition above the Word of God, and we please men above pleasing Abba Father.

"But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?" (Matthew 15:3)

"He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition." (Mark 7:6-9)

We should follow Yeshua’s example:

We must calculate the cost of following Christ. This cost requires us to die to ourselves, to our own interests and live for Christ. Jesus tells everyone who desires to be saved that “whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me” (Matt 10:38) and even more specifically, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Matt 16:24)

Who is the head of the Church? Christ or man? To whom should we conform to?

To Christ’ pattern, design, and order which were given to us by His own Word. We cannot compromise and afford to follow the commandments, traditions, and doctrines of men because as Yeshua said, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition."

For us to please or Honor our Heavenly Father, we will displease(offend) some men, and we have the choice to either be a God-pleaser or a people-pleaser. You might not like what I am going to say next, but it is true, we either obey Abba Father, or we obey men. When we are not obeying Abba Father, we automatically obeying satan. We have been given a choice:

"Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils." (1 Corinthians 10:21)

Yeshua’s great commission to us as His bride and the church is that we should teach the nations to listen, obey and keep His instructions:

"Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matthew 28:20)

It is only when we understand the significance of Abba Father's feasts and the illustration and design that we will be able to identify the false teaching and faithfully celebrate/observe and keep Abba Father's Word and His feasts as He has ordained it and as Yeshua has fulfilled them and coming back to complete His fulfillment of the feasts.

"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:17-20)

"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." (John 4:23-24)

Now is the time to return to God’s Word, to His truth that makes us free from the bondage of sin & tradition, and let us worship Him in spirit and truth as God desires of all His children.

It comes down to the matter of obedience and love to our Father. Your motive to keep and observe the feasts should be out of love and respect for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. According to scripture, we display our Love to Yeshua through our obedience to His Word. (If you love me, obey my commandments) God says that obedience is more important than sacrifice to Him. If we say yes we do keep the first command: love the LORD our God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our strength, then we have to bear the fruit of obedience to obey His Word, or we are deceiving ourselves that we love Him. It is so easy to remain ignorant and stubborn regarding God’s Word and His Feasts, but when love rules your heart, you will want to keep God’s Word and His Feasts.

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." (Galatians 5:1)

Let us remain free from the yoke of bondage which is sin and tradition

Abba Father made it very clear that the feasts He instructed Israel to keep are His feasts and that it should be kept for eternity. It is therefore still relevant, and Abba wants His children here on earth to celebrate His Feasts. It is not only for the Jews but for everyone that is part of the kingdom of Abba through Yeshua.

Gal 3:26-29  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.  [27]  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.  [28]  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.  [29]  And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

The Jews should have been in preparation for the first coming of the Messiah, just as we as Christians should be in preparation for His 2nd coming. Because it's a rehearsal, it's a preparation.

As we celebrate His feasts, we do so in reverence for what Yeshua has already done for us, BUT also for what He is yet to do for us. And that's why we keep His Feasts. Every aspect of Yeshua's ministry is portrayed to us in His Feasts, so it serves as God's pattern:

The pattern of - the path of our salvation

The pattern of - the Gospel of Yeshua

The pattern of - Yeshua's purpose on earth

The pattern of - Yeshua's coming for His bride.

The pattern of - Abba Father's covenant with us; He is GOD, and we are His people. That's the promise we receive through the blood of His Son Yeshua.

To celebrate the Feasts of God, we share in Abba Father's plan for us as human beings.

Each Feast refers to Yeshua's past, present and future and His salvation work in us.

How are we as children of Abba Father supposed to celebrate these festivals and the Sabbath?

  • We need to celebrate Yeshua and His fulfillment.

  • We must acknowledge Yeshua and respect the plan of salvation for man.

  • Although there is a lot of good symbolism in the way Jews celebrate the feasts but we cannot celebrate those feasts in the same way.

  • For the Jews, the messiah has not yet come, but for us as believers, Yeshua has already come and therefore we celebrate the ways of commemorating Him in it.

  • We also celebrate the festivities to honour His return in excited anticipation.

  • The worldly festivals instituted by man have no value and benefit, so it is imperative that we celebrate Abba Father's Festivals according to His Word, thereby promoting our intimate relationship with Him through obedience.

  • So celebrate with a joyful mood waiting for the return of Yeshua to fetch His bride.

We at CWTLM celebrate and observe God’s feasts only because the purpose of the feasts is to reveal His character to us, to reveal His plan for salvation and to prepare mankind for the second coming of Yeshua. The Bible makes it very clear that we will be celebrating the feasts and the Sabbaths during the millennium (Zac 14:16-21; Isa. 66:22-24). It is, therefore, that Yeshua (Jesus) fulfilled or partially fulfilled all the feasts (Matt. 5:17-19).

Mercy and peace, and love be multiplied to you. (Jude 1:2)

Let us investigate the pattern what God has given to us in His Word and Yeshua's fulfillment of these feasts.

Note all feasts are based on the Hebrew Calander as instructed through the Word of God which runs on a lunar (moon) cycle. Check the upcoming events and calendar for Gregorian dates.

We believe in keeping and observing the feasts of God. Because of this, we do not keep the feasts as created by the world from the traditions of men.
