Lord, is this I?

I believe that many of us had some kind of judgement towards Judas when we read the story of how he betrayed Jesus. We see him as a traitor and a thief.

“This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein." (John 12:6)

This was a man that was chosen by Jesus to be one of His disciples. One of Jesus’ closest companions. He sat with Jesus, ate with Jesus, walked with Jesus, listened to multiple teachings by Jesus and he witnessed the miracles that Jesus performed.

We see Judas as the ultimate traitor who sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver, but what have you sold Jesus for? For the pleasures of this world? For fame? Have you sold Jesus for a packet of cigarettes every day, because we all know you can’t be a slave to cigarettes and be a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matthew 6:24)

Maybe you sold Jesus for an hour of enjoyment to watch a movie Jesus won't approve of... This made me realize that compromising is like selling Jesus for temporary comfort to fulfill our fleshly lusts. Betraying Him just like Judas did. Not giving your tithes and offerings is like stealing from Jesus just like Judas did.

We all have been a Judas at some point in our lives and we must search our hearts and ask ourselves: “Lord, is this I?”

We fail Jesus daily but once we grasp what Jesus did for us on the cross, why would we want to keep on being a Judas and sell Him out? It should have been me, it should have been you who hanged on that cross for being traitors. We should have been the ones being sold, we should, but Jesus decided we are worth buying and He bought us with His blood by taking our places on the cross.

We are quick to judge but slow to search the intentions of our hearts.

"Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."(Hebrews 4:14-16)
