thought life

'Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; '

- 2 Corinthians 10:5

True christian maturity is not strength, ability, and competency, but deep dependance on God in our weaknesses - T. Myers

I used to often lay awake at night thinking about random things. Sometimes it will be things of the past that happened like a “million” years ago and I really should not even be thinking of it anymore. I was so annoyed with the fact that I didn’t know how to control my thoughts, because it consumed my mind the whole time when I was actually supposed to be sleeping. I used to really battle with this issue.

Do you also find yourself lying awake at night consumed with guilt or regret of things of the past, or maybe because of fear for the future, or perhaps stress or simply pondering on negative thoughts?

Well, as I did my studies on Biblical Counselling I soon learned that stress, fear, regret, guilt, etc. really isn’t at all from God. It really is an attack from the enemy. The first place we lose the battle is in our thinking because our minds are one of our most vulnerable places for the enemy to attack us.

We need to learn to train our mind to do 2 Corinthians 10:5.

I have never read this book of Joyce Meyer, The battlefield of the mind, but it really is so true. Because when all is said and done, the real battlefield, the place where we fight the enemy and his lies, occurs in our mind.

As soon as you wake, there is a war to keep you from the Word of God. Fight! - J. H. Perry

God calls us daily to renew our minds, but the renewal of our minds is not just that we can set our mind on the things above as it is written in Colossians 3:2. The renewal of our thought life is about restoring the condition of our thinking, which ultimately affects our souls, and to break the cycle of meditating on bad and negative thoughts.

Renewing of your mind is a daily walk with Christ where you allow Him to wash your mind in the water of His word. His Word is truth and it will help you to break down the strongholds and lies of the enemy in your mind. The Word of God is like a purifier, cleanser, and discerner for your thoughts.

'But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law, he meditates day and night.'

- Psalms 1:2

'This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. '

- Joshua 1:8

Train yourself to set your mind on Him continually and to control your thoughts to direct it into holy thinking. Guard and keep your thoughts for your thoughts should be a living sacrifice unto Him and should be separated unto Him, our Father in Heaven.

One day I simply had enough of myself and began to pay attention to my thoughts. I decided to take action and not to let the enemy steal my peace and my rest and I stepped onto the battlefield.

I prayed to Abba Father and I confessed to Him that I was weak in this area and I needed His help and guidance desperately. I took oil (olive) and I anointed my pillow and bedroom and I prayed the following Bible verses:

Abba Father, please let me be renewed in the spirit of my mind. (adapted from Ephesians 4:23)

Cast down every imagination and stronghold, and bring my thoughts into captivity to Your obedience, the obedience of Jesus Christ my Saviour (adapted from 2 Corinthians 10:5) and gird up the loins of my mind, to be sober. (adapted from 1 Peter 1:13). I submit myself to God, I resist the devil, and he will flee from me now in Jesus Name. (adapted from James 4:7)

For no weapon that is formed against me shall prosper and every tongue that rise against me I shall condemn in Jesus’ Name. (Isaiah 54:17) Abba Father command your angels to guard up a hedge of protection all around me and may you Father be a wall of fire around me to protect me. (Zachariah 2:5)

There are two very real worlds at work; the physical and the spiritual. We can ignore the spiritual and only focus on the physical, but we would not do so in victory. God calls this a war. He takes it that seriously and we better too. If we try to fight back in the flesh, we are surely set up for failure and will lose.

'For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. '

Ephesians 6:12

When Yeshua walked upon this earth, His mind was with His Father (Yahweh) in heaven and therefore Jesus heard His every thought about everything and everyone.

Living in victory and being in a covenant relationship with Abba Father, also means we need to guard and keep our thoughts by putting it on Him.

Be kingdom minded, for there is a crown for those who walk and thinks according to His mind and will.

Love and blessings in abundance
